Do I need KYC documents for an India eSIM?

Should I buy a local Jio or Airtel SIM instead?
A local SIM gives you the cheapest data per GB and an Indian number. You will need your passport, visa, a hotel booking and sometimes a photo, and activation takes 2 to 24 hours. If you are staying for months and need an Indian number, a local SIM makes sense. For a holiday or family visit, the eSIM is quicker and easier.
Does the eSIM work at Delhi and Mumbai airports?
Yes. Both airports have strong 4G and 5G. If you installed your eSIM at home, it connects as soon as you turn on Data Roaming after landing, so you can book an Uber or Ola from arrivals.
Can I use Uber, Ola and Google Maps with the eSIM?
Yes. Uber, Ola, Rapido and Google Maps all work on mobile data. You can book, track and pay for rides in every major city. Some Indian apps ask for an Indian number to sign up, so set them up on WiFi with help from family if needed.
Do WhatsApp calls work in India?
Yes. WhatsApp messages and voice and video calls work normally in India on mobile data. Call quality depends on your signal, so calls are clearest in cities and weaker in the hills and remote areas.
Does the eSIM work in Goa and Kerala?
Yes. Goa's beaches and towns have good 4G, and Kerala's cities, Kochi and the backwater towns are well covered. Signal gets patchy in the tea hills around Munnar and on some houseboat routes, so download offline maps.
Does the eSIM work in the Himalayas?
In Manali, Shimla, Rishikesh and Leh town you usually get 4G. On high passes, treks and remote valleys the signal is weak or missing. Download maps and tell someone your route before you head into the mountains.
Can I buy an eSIM for my parents visiting India?
