eSIM for Laptops

Only some laptops have the hardware for eSIM

Unlike phones, most laptops don't have a built-in cellular modem, including every current MacBook. Check whether yours qualifies below, and see the easy workaround if it doesn't.

Look for "LTE", "5G", or "WWAN" in your laptop's spec sheet, that's the sign it has cellular hardware at all.

MacBooks don't support eSIM

No current MacBook, Air or Pro, has a built-in cellular modem, so none of them can run an eSIM directly. This isn't a GleeSim limitation, Apple simply hasn't built cellular hardware into any MacBook. A MiFi router is the standard workaround, see below.

Windows laptops that typically qualify

These are the ranges where a cellular, LTE, or 5G configuration is common. Availability still depends on the specific model you bought.

Microsoft Surface Pro X and Surface Pro (LTE models)

Built-in eSIM as standard on the cellular configuration.

Dell Latitude (5000 and 7000 series)

WWAN configurations include eSIM support.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X13

Select 4G and 5G configurations, check the exact spec sheet.

HP Elite and EliteBook (WWAN models)

Cellular-equipped configurations support eSIM.

Even within these ranges, only the LTE or 5G configuration has the modem, the standard Wi-Fi only version of the same laptop name does not. Check your exact spec sheet or send us the model on WhatsApp.

No cellular modem? Use a MiFi router instead

This covers every MacBook and most standard laptops, no hardware limitation to work around.

A GleeSim MiFi router connects any laptop over Wi-Fi

The router itself carries the eSIM, and your laptop just joins its Wi-Fi network like any other hotspot. Works with MacBooks, older Windows laptops, and anything else without a built-in modem.

Frequently asked questions

Will Apple add eSIM to MacBooks?

There's no current MacBook with a cellular modem, so an eSIM can't run directly on any of them today. A MiFi router is the reliable workaround in the meantime.

Do I need to download an app?

No. GleeSim is managed entirely through WhatsApp. After you scan your QR code, all data checks, top-ups, and support happen over chat.

How do I check if my Windows laptop has a cellular modem?

Go to Settings, Network and Internet. If there's a "Cellular" or "Mobile" option listed alongside Wi-Fi, your laptop has the hardware. If it's not there, your laptop is Wi-Fi only.

Can I use the same eSIM plan on my laptop and my phone?

No, each device needs its own GleeSim eSIM. You can run both at once, they're just separate plans on separate devices.

Not sure which option fits your laptop?

Send us your model on WhatsApp, we'll tell you whether it takes a direct eSIM or needs a MiFi router.
